Are Sony digital cameras inferior?
I just bought a NEW 7.2 MP digital Sony camera and the photo quality sucks. A friend has a digital camera that takes bigger, clearer pictures that are HALF the file size. Its very evident when shrinking the pictures. I found out that my NEW Sony camera is only rated at 72 DPI. The other camera(s) I see are 180 DPI.

- If you can, take it back, and get a Vivitar Vivicam 7410. 7 MP, rechargeable battery, built in memory or SD card, and tons of photo taking features. Walmart.com has them right now for under $100, you can't beat this one!!
- no, the image sensor is not inferior. sony cameras are known for their excellent image quality. perhaps you need to change some settings in your camera to get the maximum performance out of it. sony cameras are inferior, however, in that they use sony's proprietary memory stick card format. SD cards store more pictures for less cost.
- No. Sony make a range of good cameras. There performance will vary dependinjg on the price, as with all cameras you get what you pay for. Shrinking a picture usually hides imperfections and lack of resolution. It may have more to do with the size reduction techniques.
- Inferior? I've had my 12X optical zoom Sony now for 14 months and wouldn't trade it for any other camera.( Well... don't tempt me with a SLR ).
- What model do you have? What model does your friend have? There are several possibilities: 1. You got a camera with a small (1/2.5") sensor and he has one with a big (1/1.7") sensor. 2. Your friend knows what he's doing and you don't. What do you mean by "shrinking" pictures anyway? Can you post some of your pictures so we can take a look? Maybe you just need to hold the camera more steady or something.
